Juneteenth 150th Anniversary Limited Edition Print

Artist Dwayne Glapion's painting titled "The Shepherd" was chosen for the African American Voice Newspaper 2015 limited edition Juneteenth art print. Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day, Freedom Day, or Emancipation Day, is a holiday in the United States that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. state of Texas in June 1865, and more generally the emancipation of African-American slaves throughout the Confederate South. Celebrated on June 19, the term is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth, and is recognized as a state holiday or special day of observance in most states. 2015 marks the 150th Anniversary of the Celebration.

The Limited Edition Posters were sponsored by the African American Voice Newspaper and will be available at the Juneteenth Caribbean Heritage Festival held in Colorado Springs. Festival Events run from June 9 - June 21. There are only 150 prints available.

Age Of Kindness Mural Helps To Heal Whittier Neighborhood

Artist Dwayne Glapion's "The Age of Kindness" mural will be unveiled at the Ford-Warren Library on Sunday May 24, 2015. The mural was commissioned as part of the Whittier Dayz Neighborhood 2015 Celebration. The concept of the mural is a reaction and response to a hate crime act that occurred in the
neighborhood. In April 2014, an anonymous letter was distributed to certain blocks of the Whittier neighborhood. The letter contained many hateful remarks, and many residents became alarmed and wanted to find a way that they could show unity and support for each other. The theme of this mural is to show that a neighborhood's strength comes from individuals who come together as a community to support each other while also symbolizing neighborhood diversity and unity. The artist included many symbols and images that address the concept of unity, kindness, education and harmony. The mural is 8ft by 16ft and will be on permanent display on the libraries exterior wall facing 28th Avenue....

Denver Chalk Art Festival 2012

June 12th, 2012

Denver Chalk Art Festival 2012

Artist Dwayne Glapion participated in this years Denver Chalk Art Festival in Larimar Square June 2-3. This will be his third time participating in the event. This years theme was created for maximum fun and interactivity, an extreme perspective piece that allowed participants to stand on a square and look as if they were balancing dangerously over a lava pit. This piece was inspired by his sons (age 4 & 7) and helpers who titled it "The Danger Pit!" The illusion was created to work specifically with a camera shot from a specific spot. The art was one of a handful that allowed interactivity. The response from attendees was wonderful - they really appreciated the fact that it was a kid friendly piece. The response was so positive that the artist said he would incorporate this type of style and interactivity in future works at the event. "I knew it was a success by the smiles of the kids and adults" he said. The chalk space was sponsored by Tribe Inc Event Management.
