"Pain, Prayer, and Perseverance" is an evocative exploration of the multifaceted experience of being Black in America. The artwork features a compelling portrayal of three men, each engaging with the American flag in varied and thought-provoking ways. The figure on the left is enveloped in the iconic red and white stripes, with a poignant gesture of hands covering his face—symbolizing the grief and pain experienced in the journey. The central figure, clad in a neutral grey shirt, embodies a moment of reflection and supplication, cradling the blue field with its white stars against his chest in prayer to the heavens. On the right, another man in a dark red shirt clutches an all white flag that seems to have his gripped fists bound, his gaze turned aside, symbolizing the strength and will needed to fight for change knowing the struggle will continue to repeat.
